Kamloops, British Columbia
Kamloops is located in the interior of British Columbia, centrally situated along the road from Vancouver to Banff. The area is known for striking pine tree-covered mountains peaking out from behind sloping brown hills and for the meeting of the fast flowing Thompson and North Thompson Rivers. The contrast of forest with desert is the great intrigue of the interior's landscape.
Attractions
Golfing, skiing, hiking, mountain biking and fishing are some of the great outdoor sports that continue to attract visitors to this sunny climate. Boasting over 2,000+ hours of sunlight annually and only 270 mm of rain, Kamloops is the perfect location to work on your swing, especially since it hosts Golf Digest's 'Best New Course in Western Canada 2003,' Sun Rivers. And, just a 45 minute drive away is Sun Peaks Resort, an award-winning ski resort with three mountains and a great new village. Don't worry, they get ample precipitation up there - the average is snowfall is 220 inches/559 cm/18.5 ft!For those who prefer to explore towns rather than mountains, Kamloops has much to offer you. The quaint downtown area has plenty of one-of-a-kind boutiques, coffee shops and patio bars, and the larger city of Kamloops offers all the essential shopping amenities. In the summer (from mid-April to October), downtown Kamloops hosts a Farmers' Market where local artisans and farmers gather to sell their crafts and fresh produce. This is not to be missed - the sunny climate produces amazingly sweet summer fruit!
Location
Kamloops is a four hour drive from Vancouver, five and a half hours from Seattle, and only six hours to Calgary. Alternatively, you can fly into Kamloops Airport, a short 45 minute trip from Vancouver or one hour flight to Calgary.
